FIRST RESPONDER SERVICE
If you suspect a Heart Attack or Stroke
First dial 112 or 999 Then Contact your Sneem Cardiac First Responder
Dial 087 9800999
The Sneem Cardiac First Responder Service, is a voluntary group who respond to emergency calls relating to heart attack, stroke, or choking. Calling 0879800999 reaches an operator who will send out a group text message to over 40 First Responders in the Sneem area, from which the nearest two available will respond immediately to resuscitate a patient until professional help arrives.
The Service now has sufficient members to extend the coverage to the Tahilla area. We hope to have it in place before the end of the winter and invite people from Sneem and Tahilla to take full advantage of the training courses on offer.
Basic lifesaving skills, including the use of a defibrillator are easily learned in two evenings or one full day.
These courses are free and there is no obligation after taking part in any of the courses to continue, or to volunteer with the Sneem CFR Service.
The more people who acquire the skills of CPR the better, because you never know when and where they are needed.
An essential link in the chain of survival for a person that has stopped breathing is to maintain ventilation and circulation until medical assistance arrives.
To do that, one needs to know how to perform resuscitation (CPR), or even better, how to use a defibrillator, (AED).
That’s exactly what Marie Loise O’Brian from Seaview, Sneem did recently, when a person collapsed and stopped breathing here in Sneem.
At that time Marie Louise appeared to be the only one close by that knew what to do, and how to perform CPR. The victim regained consciousness and was very grateful to his young hero.
There will be several opportunities this winter to take part in a course or a refresher, but why not take one of the next available courses listed below?
You can also arrange a group of 4-6 of your friends and let us know when a course would suit you, we will try and accommodate it.
The courses have official accreditation, (PHECC, IHF, AHA), and you will be issued certification that is valid for two years.

We also like to thank our main Sponsors, Mr. Michael Collins who initially financed our entire First Responder programme in remembrance of his brother Trevor Collins, and Mrs Anne McMahan who has also generously supported the programme on several occasions. Without their contributions and without the time given by all the volunteers, this Community Service could not exist.
Thank you all for your support!
