There is no more magical spot to go sea kayaking than around Oysed Bay and the Parknasilla Islands. There are numerous families of curious seals around and you will see herons staking out their fishing territories, as well as cormorants, oyster catchers, and numerous other species of bird life.
The mile or so east and west of Oysterbed offers everything the sea kayaker could want in the way of scenery and conditions, with barren and tree covered islands and the opportunity to cover a lot of ground in the protected waters of the inshore islands as well island hopping to the uninhabited islands running out to hundreds of meters off shore.
The day trips and overnight runs both to the east and the west offer interesting shorelines and numerous landing spots. Some wild and some not so wild - (hotels and pubs)
Drive down 1km at the Oysterbed turn off 1.5km east of Sneem.

There is parking at the slip-way or launch at the pier steps. very civilised!

Go east for Parknasilla Islands (very calm waters), west for Garnish Sound (interesting) or straight out for Sherkey and Cannonball Islands - off shore. Have fun.
